i don't care 03:21
i don’t care i don’t care about your ugly face i don’t care if it’s all over the place i don’t care who you are don’t care about your fuck-off cars or your mansions in greece if you just leave me in peace i don’t care about your fleet of yachts i don’t care about a thing you’ve got I don’t care about your plans to suck a living from your fans so your stocks increase if you just leave me in peace the rich are always with us what are we gonna do blast them into space to find another subject race and leave us in peace the rich are always with us what are we gonna do the problem’s not the money but they got plans for me and you and they won’t leave us in peace i don’t care about your investments in mars if you go there you’ll be sufficiently far away from me i just care that you bought up this planet and everything that’s living on it for your private use and you’re sucking its juice i don’t care let’s dance

svengali song you’re a bird with a broken wing a fragile ragged thing i picked you up to hear you sing now i’m gonna make you fly you’re drawn to people of your kind like the blind searching for the blind so it’s no surprise you didn’t find anyone to make you fly you’re the kind of girl that looks good for the lens cause you got the skin you got the lips you got the eyes but you’re the kind of girl that goes unnoticed to her friends cause you’d never own up that you’ve never grown up to their size you’ve got the shadows on your side they give you cover when you need to hide now you’re weak so i’ll let you ride then i’m gonna make you fly fly i know you can fly you’re the kind of girl that can’t make it on her own though you got the curves you don’t have the nerve that you need i took you under my wing and though you’re not fully grown now i’m gonna force you to be free if it makes you bleed you’re a bird with a broken wing a fragile ragged thing i picked you up to hear you sing now i’m gonna make you fly fly, i know you can fly now i’m gonna make you fly

in search of lost time if you went in search of lost time what would you find if you went in search of that lost time what would you find the wind is stirring the leaves heads are passing over the wall the doorman’s nodding and the barman’s prodding him and you’re waiting for the end of it all looks like tonight time’s going nowhere cause there’s nowhere else to fall the band is swinging like a chandelier on its way to crash with the wall and you’re waiting for the end of it all if you went in search of lost time what would you find if you went in search of that lost time what would you find the singer adds variety howling at the moon i’m hanging onto sobriety while he tries to croon it’s only 10 o’clock and it’s all happening too soon and i’m walking like a badly drawn cartoon nothing to be afraid of but stumbling on your fear but there’s a voice that’s whispering close to my ear it’s best to let the past lie cause the truth is too hard to hear and the truth is too hard to hear toujours la fuite en avant parce que le temps ça va trop lentement toujours la fuite en avant parce que le temps ça va trop lent if i focus hard on the lead guitar’s hands and lay back into this out-of-time band i won’t have to go in search of lost time i won’t have to find what i could find if i just had a mind to call up the ghosts close behind if i just had a mind to call up the ghosts close behind

never go home the sun’s ablaze the sea overflows with light and every turn in the road takes me further from this paradise takes me further from the way that we chime and strike the perfect note for this fleeting life you know love is blind when you can’t leave it behind the road hugs the mountain and i gaze out to sea and everything’s perfect just as it was meant to be it seems life’s about leaving well what did you expect the pain is the past you don’t want to forget you know love is blind when you can’t leave it behind generous spirit you made me want to sing something about you made me want to leave everything and never go home

there’s a ghost there’s a ghost that’s haunting me from the dark side of my mind watching me with lonely eyes still tender and unkind i know that i should let her go yes i wish that i knew how every house has its secret curse every land its sacred cow maybe i just need an image graven on the air that i can worship from afar carry with me everywhere or i need to feel the gravity of a woman they could not break who turned the head of every man and dragged us in her wake i hear your voice but there’s no one there feel your body but it’s made of air see your face try to touch your hair my days without you with you i share cause love never dies i can meet you anytime in these invented scenes but i have yet to ask you what this haunting means i have yet to face myself and look you in the eye and confess i’ll always carry a love that cannot die i hear your voice but there’s no one there feel your body but it’s made of air see your face try to touch your hair my days without you with you i share cause love never dies

stained glass window the freezing rain on the leaves the sparrows shivering in the eaves the stained-glass panes in the front door bled their colours on the threadbare floor you laughed at the cold in your ragged biker jacket and your old torn jeans as we huddled round the fire in our country nook under black oak beams in the snug at the barley mow your crowd of friends all in tow spliff and bitter brandy and blow we waved the time away like the clouds of smoke you laughed at the future as we dressed up to hit the town never think was your motto and we never thought anything could ever bring us down but the time came between us like a flood a tide of debris and bad blood the cottage slipped away like a dream with its fireplace and oak beams in the shadow of the wood i see you laughing in the rain now that you’re beyond all pain i want to remember you in this timeless view through the stained-glass window pane

flora 04:14
flora i saw you cross the square and merge into the crowd called out your name but i didn’t shout too loud you stared at the ground with your hair disguised as blond looking like you’d seen a ghost well hey i was the one you picked me up like a ragged alley cat dusted me down and installed me in your flat cooked me up some pasta juiced me at the bars fenced with my affections till we went a bar too far flora my only flora i bet that you still haven’t guessed the name of the rose i left you when suddenly i ceased to be your guest you were bored and restless hungry for a change i brightened up the colours of your faded routine range and so we hit the streets of your boho neighbourhood sharing magic moments till the whiskey soured the mood stumbling down gran vía all the way i cried later on the fateful night i witnessed you decide that you were fine without a case like mine and slipped into the crowd with a guy who was six foot nine flora my only flora i bet that you still haven’t guessed the name of the rose i left you when suddenly i ceased to be your guest we climbed the stairs behind a random door and found the party we were looking for with a cast of strangers and a mystery friend that i stumbled on at the rainbow’s end the theatre bar the cinema bar the salsa bar the rock’n’roll bar the whiskey bar the tequila bar the piano bar was a bar too far flora my only flora i bet that you still haven’t guessed the name of the rose i left you when suddenly i ceased to be your guest flora my lonely flora suddenly i ceased to be your guest

nobody knows 04:16
nobody knows the screens light up the room behind the louvered blinds and the couple in the convertible kiss three times and part she’s like a jigsaw standing there on the pavement the pieces don’t fit and she’s wondering if they ever will and it’s been so long and it’s been so long and nobody knows but you a bare and functional room in the early hours button by button you take off your blouse in the mirror of your eyes slowly turning your head you see that automobile where you kiss three times and it’s always sweet that bitter pill and it’s been so long and it’s been so long and nobody knows the river is like a mirror in the water the buildings shiver i carry you like an echo watching in the window i wake up with the dawn the river in my eyes empty pockets the dust in my skin just a blur in the sun she turns to the window does she see me there and i can’t turn away cause nothing can be like it was before and it’s been so long and it’s been so long and nobody knows

stars of our lives when i see you in the afternoon on the armchair in the common room i stroke your belly like an alley cat you can’t tell me that you don’t like that i take off your top cause it’s way too tight let me admire you in the mellow light and when i ask if you want more of that you laugh and tell me that you’re going back i’m coming closer to you a love confused is never through i know this love will bring out the best bring out the best in me and you cause it’s just this game that we play every day that we’re the stars of our lives it’s just this game that we play every day that we’re the stars of our lives

about

when the lockdown came along and the gigs dried up i sat down and started thinking about a new album, sifting through songs, ideas and fragments, shuttling back and forth across the years from the latest to some of the very oldest. it's been a long process but finally here it is. hope you like it :)
