I saw you turn away I saw you turn your head away Was it something that I said There must be something better to do Than sit and sink into the blue My life is leaking into space Because in my dreams I don’t see your face I saw you turn your head away Was it something that I said It seems I have to go down there To come back with a spark of life I have to keep going deep down there To bring back something just to stay alive I saw you turn your head away Was it something that I said A touch a sight a beam of light A jewel that shimmers in the night A flame to keep my heart alight A journey to the end of the night I saw you turn your head away Was it something that I said Or something that I didn’t say That made you look the other way

Were you waiting Were you waiting for a clear day To light you on your way A clear line A rising sign Were you waiting till we were ready Till we were all rock steady Around the bed Where you lay your head Were you waiting till we’d cut the crap Nerves steeled tight and not to snap For the day You went on your way Waiting for heaven to stoop to earth And celebrate your brand new birth With fire and rockets and the heart of light Exploding across our blinded sight Waiting for an empty sky Now you’ve got bigger fish to fry And leave us stuck to this planet skin With no way out and no way in To the land beyond all grief and pain Where you’re waiting To hold us all again

Billy Zoom 03:36
Billy Zoom I saw a photo of Billy Zoom There in a book I was leafing through I bought a card with a black flower There in the shop I was browsing through A guy with a guitar it was Billy Zoom A card with a flower that had no name Yes it was it was Billy Zoom I never thought I would be faced with him I was surprised so what are these tears doing in my eyes Yes it was it was Billy Zoom wearing a smile from 1981 It took me back, back to those years I thought were dead and gone I saw a photo of Billy Zoom There in a book I was leafing through I bought a card with a black flower There in the shop I was browsing through Just a guy with a guitar it was really him Just a black flower that has no name Yes it was it was Billy Zoom I never thought I would be faced with him I was surprised so what are these tears doing in my eyes Yes it was it was Billy Zoom Wearing a smile from 1981 It took me back, back to those years I thought were dead and gone Wearing a jacket like the one you wore When you were best man and you stole the show I didn’t care I was so proud for them to know you La la la la la lalalala la I saw a photo, I bought a flower I saw a photo of Billy Zoom

No trace of you In the wind stirring the acacias making the birch leaves flash in the mountains blue green stretched flat on the cellophane sky pressing against palms in the slatted shadows ribbing the trunks in this bell which tolls and voices under the pines kids whooping yelling There’s no trace no connection to you In this alien language on my tongue in my head people call talk about it all this noise on the street roar of engines on the road to the city to the beach this stretch of sea heaving its hide its mermaid hiss its white sine wave this rocking blue liquid we play in the golden dust that covers us in this suit of sun and the wide wide screen where the city preens its cathedrals and designer dreams under thirsty mountains torn from the sky’s rim In all this careless beauty There’s no trace of you In all this casual beauty dropped from the sky There’s no trace of you And I feel like I’m planets away Light years distant from that day In these dusty highrise rooftops terraces cranes faded ochre balconies tatty awnings plastic chairs and the sunblasted basketball court the drooping planes the desert street the shut-up fairground the figures lolling on benches hunched over low walls spitting pipas chewing the fat staring into space abuelitos chavales scuffing up grit young rangy arab guys and the venezuelan girl with her tacky t-shirt sun-flattened faded and tired dazzled by the 40 degrees and the grinding light stoking down its fires towards evening In all this careless beauty There’s no trace of you No trace of your footsteps your passage your black boots your charity shop style no comment of yours hangs on any streetcorner or trails round any shop window any view from any flat no whisper of your voice or your guitar at any party here in any place and no irony rings in any square where we ever sat and drank beer in the cool heat of the evening No trace of you drifts across these streets marooned in implacable sun No trace of you And I feel like I’m planets away Light years distant from that day

One more time Wish I’d seen you one more time before you went Wish I’d talked to you one more time Wish I’d laughed with you one more evening spent Together one more time Wish I’d phoned you one more time to hear you speak Wish we’d spoken one more time I wish that time that my lips had brushed your cheek Together one more time One more time one more time before you go Just give me one more time One more time one more time before you say goodbye Just give me one more time Wish I’d kissed you one more time before you went Wish I’d touched you one more time Wish I’d looked into your eyes one more moment spent Together one more time Wish I could hold you in my arms just one more time Wish I could keep you from all harm Wish I’d told you that I loved you just one time Wish I’d let myself be kind I wish I’d known That there would be no more time Together no more time

London Fields I went walking in London Fields and Death walked by my side He said I am stronger than any man no matter what his pride When I asked him why his hand fell that day answer he gave me none There was nothing left but to fly away for now the deed was done I went walking in London Fields and Life she spoke to me And she said how sweet it was to live and walk so fine and free But there’s no going back from the other side no matter who you are There was nothing left but to follow the tide now that you had gone that far I went walking in London Fields and Death walked by my side Saying no one chooses their time to die and there’s no place they can hide When my hand it falls then your time has come and all must me obey I left him there with tears in my eyes and I went on my way I went walking in London Fields and Life she spoke to me Saying I am the queen of all our dreams without me nothing can be Death is my shadow, that much is true the price that we must pay So while you have your time on you make sure you live your way I went walking in London Fields and I walked on my own With no god who watches our life on earth we’re free to act alone In the end there’s only ourselves who’ll judge how well or not we’ve lived When you’re gone it’s true you get the love that you’ve seen fit to give I went walking in London Fields and watched the children play It was life that gave my brother to me and death took him that day When he went the people he loved were left to suffer and cry in pain But his passing gave us a greater gift because it’s love that still remains

Out of your darkest nights In the bedroom with your visions of past lives and deaths In the spectral city with your all-night fears Lying awake while the hours strip you away Getting to know the shapes that death can take Death can take Chorus Out of your darkest nights That’s where the dawn is born Out of your darkest nights That’s where it’s born On the campsite with your heart bursting into flame Buried in the fields while planes rip up the sky Hard on the pavement with your heart pounding fast Waiting for the light praying for the light to come The light to come Chorus Oh remembering and knowing what you’ve lost Oh imagining not knowing what you’ve missed Oh descending touching the depths of the well Oh rending crashing and rising from that hell That place you know so well on this earth Till the birth of the dawn takes you away You wake at four in a space that’s steeped in silence Shadows thickly webbed around your room Shivering in the dark though it’s not cold Burning in your chest the question why The question why Chorus Hold on it’s coming Hold on it's coming your way

Driving south Driving south / We’re driving south Down to the beach / We’re driving south The wind in your hair / Sun on the road Cruising through the mountains / With the sea by our side Leave the city behind us / With everything it means We’re driving south Sand and salt on your lips / Denim next to your skin The sun in your hair / Beer and wine in my head And no-one’s gonna tell me / The girls aren’t gorgeous With all their skin on show Driving south, we’re driving south Long slow afternoon / The sun through the blinds The taste of salt on your skin / Smell of sun in your hair And no one’s gonna tell me / That you’re not gorgeous With all your skin on show Driving south, we’re driving south Laughing on the beach / Playing in the waves Drinking at the bar / The sunset in your eyes And no one’s gonna tell me / That you’re not gorgeous With all your skin on show Driving south, we’re driving south

Now that you’re gone Now that you’re gone / now it’s been too long Because there’s nothing left / but this emptiness And I feel I’m struck dumb / nothing left to say Just a hole in my heart / where you used to be Now you’re not there / now it’s more than a year Now you’ve gone so far / I miss you more than before And I feel like I’m deaf / to those cries in the night Just a darkness is left / just a quiet in my heart This book that you gave me / I haven’t read it still And now that you’ve left me / I know I never will And I’ve got no taste / for the sun and its pleasures Because the day that you left / was this kind of weather This t-shirt I gave you / now I’ve got it on I know it won’t save me / now that everything’s wrong And I feel I’ve lost sight / of that beautiful land And its light that I caught / I let slip from my hands Show me the way / to get back that dream Show me the way / that you went home

Lay down your darkness Lay down your darkness lay it down Lay down your pain lay it down Lay down your suffering lay it down Cause it’s not serving you now I know you’ve suffered and you’re suffering again But I’m not the one who’s causing you this pain It’s like a shield between you and me When I want you just to be With me Lay down…….. Lay down your darkness when you come to my door Lay down your pain cause you don’t need it any more Lay down your armour lay down your arms Cause you don’t need them when you come To my tender arms I’ve seen it happen and I understand But now you’re burying your head in the sand I’m not the one who’s doing you this harm So unveil your beauty Unveil all your charm Lay down your darkness lay it down Lay down your pain lay it down Lay down your suffering lay it down I demand you lay it down Cause it’s not serving you now It’s just not serving you now It’s just standing in your light No need to run no need to fight No need to keep your body wound up tight So lay down your darkness and let’s be beautiful Tonight Let’s be beautiful Let’s be beautiful together Together tonight
